PROFILE FOR TROMSØ ART GALLERY

Client: Tromsø Kunstforening/Tromsø Art Gallery
Design & illustration: Claudia C. Sandor
2008–2009

Tromsø Art Gallery shows changing exhibitions of international and Norwegian contemporary art.

The logo is based on geometry and colour theory, inspired by Tromsø’s location in the far north of Norway. Shapes and colours characteristic to Tromsø fused with Modernism’s play with colour theory and visual experiments. Nature and art – triangles/mountains, light/dark/aurora borealis. The main colours are ice blue and yellow – combined together, they make green. (White and black are also used extensively). Swedish designer Erik Hedberg’s font “Shoreline” is used as a point of departure for the lettering.

Since what is showing at the space in constant change, the concept of transformation is also central to the identity. The main compontents of printed matter such as posters and programs that are done periodically – twice yearly, fall/winter and spring/summer – are illustrations constructed from images of the space and works by artists that will be exhibiting in that specific period. I try to only use the identity colours blue and yellow, getting the green only from semi-transparent layering.
