SIRI HERMANSEN, POINT OF VIEW

Logo for exhibition at RAM Gallery, Oslo, May 2009

Clients: Siri Hermansen/RAM Gallery
Graphic design: Claudia C. Sandor
2009

In this exhibition, Siri Hermansen takes a look at an area of Beijing where the contrasts between a city in development and the high-brow art scene collide. Proud workers opened up their homes (shacks built haphazardly by the construction sites the men work at) to Hermansen, whose exhibition includes striking portraits of the men, a money-tree sculpture, videos and other sculptural work.

The logo is based on the Chinese tradition of posting the character for happiness (“xìngfú) upside-down during the annual Spring Festival. It is said that this is done because the character (seen to the left in the logo) is a homonyn of the character for “to arrive”. So it means that happiness is “arriving”. More on Wikipedia.
